Last year, monday.com diversified its offering by releasing three core new products: monday dev, monday CRM and monday work management.
Each tailored to meet the use cases of different teams, the products have been designed to be as intuitive and simple to use as possible.
In this post, we’re going to take a deep dive into just one of these: monday dev.
What is monday dev?
monday dev is a ‘Work OS’ platform, designed to fulfil the needs of software development and product management teams.
Launched in 2023, monday dev takes the user-friendly interface of monday.com, and combines this with Agile templates and tools.
Who is monday dev for?
As the name suggests, software developers would be a core user group for monday dev. However, the tool is also valuable for teams involved in product strategy, and in research and development.
Excitingly (well, to us – we are tech geeks after all), monday dev supports an Agile way of working, with Kanban templates and Sprint Management/Retrospective templates – ideal for Agile development teams using Scrum.
Ultimately, monday.com’s ease of use and simple User Interface (UI) has earned it fans across a wide range of business areas, as users don’t need to be technical. So, whilst monday dev is aimed at software developers, non-technical teams can also benefit from it.
Benefits of monday dev
User-friendly: monday.com is known for its ease of use, and monday dev is no different. As one of our Technical Consultants described it, the tool is is ‘easy to learn, incredibly user friendly and intuitive.’ This is a real bonus for busy teams who want to get started (or resume) their work quickly – particularly if they have experienced a tooling shift.
Are you considering a move to monday dev? Whether you’re switching from an existing work management platform, or coming to monday.com afresh, we can help guide you through the transition with dedicated monday.com consultancy services. From change management and best practice, to monday.com training to and support, we’ll ensure your tooling change is a success.
- Wide range of integrations: No tool is an island, so it’s crucial your work OS integrates with a variety of complementary tech. As you’d expect for a software development and product management platform, monday dev integrates with Slack, Github, Jira and more.
Simple to collaborate: Just as no tool is an island, neither is any team (although we’re sure some development teams would love to be left alone to code in peace!). As monday dev is part of the monday.com ecosystem, it’s simple to collaborate with business areas using monday work management or CRM. And, with monday service currently in beta, we expect the monday.com tech stack to foster even stronger relationships between development and service teams in the future, for greater efficiency and issue resolution.
Continually evolving: No organisation can stand still in today’s landscape, and monday.com is no exception. We already mentioned monday service is available for users to try in beta, whilst monday.com is continually expanding its range with new products and enhancements, like Workcanvas (which we’ll explore in a future blog post).
Supports Agile working: Almost all software development teams incorporate some elements of the Agile philosophy in their working practices, with many using an Agile framework like Scrum or Kanban. It’s essential, therefore, that your tooling supports this (and monday dev does).
Top features of monday dev
After a brief overview of monday dev benefits, it’s time to share some of our team’s top features. With years of experience helping our customers to maximise their value from monday.com, we picked our consultants’ brains: What are their three top features?
Agile features
We touched on this in the benefits section, and now it’s time to explore it in a little more depth. monday dev incorporates notable features to support Agile working, including Sprint Management tools, a Kanban view and a Sprint Retrospective view.
These features, combined with robust road-mapping capabilities, equip you with the functionality you need to plan, manage, review and progress work in an iterative manner, incorporating continuous feedback and improvements.
Ease of configurability
Templates and out-of-the box functionality is an excellent starting point for any team wanting to jump into a new work platform. But, over time, you’ll undoubtedly need to unlock ways to shape the tool to your own processes and needs. After all, even if you adhere to frameworks with their specific roles and processes, your organisation, people and output are still unique.
Setting up configuration in monday dev is simple to do, with little training required – especially in comparison to some more mature work management tools.
Automations
As you’d expect from a valuable work management tool, monday.com offers standard out-of-the-box automations to help reduce manual processing and repetitive tasks.
The beauty of monday dev’s automations is that they’re so simple to put together. Again, this is why monday dev is an ideal fit for teams where this may be their first foray into a work management platform.
With no code needed (although, admittedly, this tends not to be a problem for software developers!), you can easily select an automation rule and simply customise it to reflect your processes and items.
Alongside this standard offering, it’s possible to create a range of custom automations (either yourself, or with the help of a certified monday.com partner, like us!), to really extend the impact and efficiency your tool can deliver.
What’s next for monday dev?
monday dev looks set to challenge to existing players in the software development tooling space. With its ease of use and simple pricing structure, we anticipate it primarily adding value to small-to-medium teams at this stage, but look forward to watching the tool grow and evolve.
